Authorities send back 1,641 foreigners

Imphal, March 10 2015:
Security forces in Imphal East's Jiribam subdivision are conducting routine checking to send back foreigners infiltrating the State through the subdivision, which has been used as a 'corridor' .
Routine checking on foreigners has been held at different places of the subdivision under the supervision of Officer-In-Charge, CID (SB), Foreigner Check Post and Officer-In-Charge, Foreigner Check Post.
Jiribam is located along the Manipur-Assam border.
A total of 1,211 foreigners were sent back from the subdivision last year, said Jiri News Network citing official reports.
As of March 9, 2015, as many as 430 'outsiders' were pushed back by the authorities.
However, 40 such people were found possessing proper documents.
According to Tajuddin Khan, OC, CID (SB-Special Branch) Foreigner Check Post, checking on foreigners are conducted on daily basis.
He said foreigners who possess valid documents are allowed to enter the State.
Khan also said locals are assisting the security forces in the exercise.
Sources said conducting verification on foreigners becomes a daunting task once they entered the State capital Imphal after passing through different check posts at Nungba, Noney
and Keithelmanbi.
