MCI okays MBBS course at JNIMS, Imphal

Imphal, March 10 2015:
The executive committee of the Medical Council of India has decided to make a recommendation to the Central Government to renew permission for admission of 6th batch of 100 MBBS students at the Jwaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal for the academic year 2015-16 .
According to official sources, the decision was made after taking into account the Council Assessors Report on the physical and teaching facilities available at the institute during a meeting of the committee held in early part of February.
The committee considered the report and decided to recommend recognition/approval of JNIMS, Imphal for award of MBBS degree for 100 seats granted by Manipur University, Manipur and decided to recommend to the Central Government for approval under section 11 (2) of the IMC Act, 1956, the sources stated.
The recognition for the undergraduate course for award of MBBS degree will be for a maximum period of five years upon which it has to be renewed again.
The procedure for renewal will be same as applicable for award of recognition and failure of timely renewal will result in stoppage of admission for the concerned course.
The executive committee will be placing the matter before the general body of the council.
