National Space Day 2026 observed at Waikhom Mani Girls' College

The 3rd National Space Day 2026 was observed at Waikhom Mani Girls' College, Thoubal, on Saturday with the objective of creating awareness among students and the general public about India's achievements in space science and technology and inspiring young minds to pursue careers in the field.
The programme was organised by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in collaboration with the Manipur Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MARSAC) and Waikhom Mani Girls' College as part of the nationwide observance commemorating the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon and celebrating India's growing capabilities in space exploration and applications.
Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Bajpai, IFS attended the programme as chief guest in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal, Robita Yumnam; Director (Planning), Dr RK Radhesana; Principal of Waikhom Mani Girls' College, Prof H Manoranjan Sharma; Associate Director, DTDI, ISRO Headquarters.
Department of Space, Government of India, Dr N Raghu Meetei; Head of GSD, NESAC, M Somorjit Singh; and Prof A Dilipkumar Singh of the Physics Department, Manipur University, who is also the Director of MARSAC .
The event brought together students, teachers, officials, academics and members of the public.
Various activities were organised to highlight the importance of space science, satellite technology, spacebased applications and India's future ambitions in space exploration.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers highlighted the significant contributions of India's space programme to national development, particularly in communication, weather forecasting, disaster management, agriculture, navigation, education and environmental monitoring.
Students were encouraged to develop scientific curiosity, innovation and a spirit of inquiry and to explore opportunities in space science and related fields.
The programme also provided them an opportunity to learn about India's achievements in space exploration and the important role the younger generation can play in shaping the country's future in the space sector.
Interactive sessions and awareness activities further encouraged students to take an interest in space science and related fields.
The observance at Waikhom Mani Girls' College reaffirmed Manipur's commitment to promoting scientific temper, innovation and STEM education among young people, particularly girls and students from the region.
