Imphal, July 15 2015 :
Indigenous People's Association, Kangleipak (IPAK) stated that people of Manipur are not trying to push back non-locals but simply demanding the Inner Line Permit (ILP) already implemented in three States of the Northeast.
During a press meet here on Wednesday, IPAK advisor Sapamcha Jadumani expressed concern over the time frame decided by the State Government in introducing a new ILP Bill.
Pointing out that the Manipur Regulation on Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill 2015 (MRVT&MW Bill) rejected by the people had been finally withdrawn by the Government, Jadumani asked the Government whether or not it would be arranging an ILP Bill acceptable to the people or the Centre.
He recounted that the ILP movement in Manipur began in 1990 and now a young student had been killed by police on July 8 last.
Jadumani alleged that the Government is incapable of taking a concrete decision on implementing ILPS in the State.
He also accused the Government of possessing double standards in handling the issue.
Jadumani pointed out that ILP is still implemented in the three States - Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram and expressed suspicion that the Government will never want to slot in any provision of the ILP in the proposed Bill to be introduced in the Assembly.
He said if the Government is sincere enough and listens to the voice of the people, the Centre will certainly fulfill the ILP demand.
The IPAK advisor further clarified that the people of Manipur want ILP and that they do not intend to push back non-locals from the State.
