Imphal, July 15 2015 :
Women vendors of Imphal Khwairamband market clashed with police personnel before taking out a protest rally to demand implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) on Wednesday.
Earlier, a sit-in was staged at Khwairamband Market by the women vendors and it was followed by a rally.
However, the rally was halted by police personnel deployed at Bir Tikendrakit Park.
A scuffle ensued between the police and women protesters, which lasted about half an hour, under the Bir Tikendrajit Flyover.
Vendors of the three Ima Keithels shouted slogans during the protest.
They said though the controversial Manipur Regulation on Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers (MRVT&MW) Bill had been withdrawn by the Government, it had failed to introduce a replacement.

They demanded that ILPS should be implemented to protect the indigenous people and that the 'feeble' Chief Minister should resign on moral grounds.
A large number of police personnel were present at the site preparing to bring the situation under control.
One of the protesters told Hueiyen Lanpao that taking three months' time to introduce a new ILPS Bill is a totally unsound decision of the Government.
She demanded that the proposed Bill should be introduced at the earliest after taking into consideration suggestions and opinions of experts.
The protester also warned of stringent agitation if a bill meant to protect the interest of the indigenous people is not passed by the Government.
