State sailing smoothly now: CM N Biren

Imphal, July 15 2022: While claiming that the state is today sailing smoothly due to sincerity and hard-work of officers who are delivering benefits of government schemes at the doorsteps of beneficiaries, chief minister N Biren said that the government can bring a change in the state if this progress continues in the next five years or so.

Speaking at inaugural session of the Stakeholders' Consultation Meet under Export Hubs Scheme at Hotel Imphal, Friday organised by Imphal East district administration, CM Biren pointed out that the state government initiated the One Product One Sub-division Scheme and an officer each for 68 sub-divisions of the state has been appointed as in-charge and every sub-division will have its own product.

The state government had introduced the Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leader's Day to interact with the public and understand the grievances at the ground level.

Under the programme, government officers are going to the people and delivering benefits of government schemes at their doorsteps, the chief minister said, while appreciating the sincerity and hard-work of the officers.

The chief minister also highlighted the need to attract investors to bring development, and to develop infrastructure while conveying that the state has received a proposal for hosting the Femina Miss India contest, which will entail creating infrastructure for such big events.

Highlighting government's plans for developing infrastructure in the state, N Biren deliberated on the under construction Olympic Park, setting up of a 5-star hotel at the old High Court site and night landing facility at Imphal airport.

According to CM Biren, Manipur has huge production capacity of turmeric, pineapple and ginger and these products have high demand outside.

He said that the state recently exported pineapple and 10 tonnes of turmeric powder to Europe.

Textiles, commerce and industry minister Nemcha Kipgen, who also attended the inaugural session, said that the scheme is aimed at targeting export promotion, manufacturing and employment generation at the grass-root level and making India an export powerhouse.

She added that the products identified for Imphal East district are Chak-hao or black rice, pineapple and diversified handloom and handicraft.

Meanwhile, commission er (textiles) PK Jha said that 75 districts from all over the country have been identified as export hubs and Imphal East has been identified as one such district in Manipur.
