Guv Uikey's CCpur visit briefly obstructed

CCpur, October 18 2023: Governor Anusuiya Uikey made her third visit to Churachandpur on Wednesday since the unrest erupted on May 3 but her trip was briefly obstructed by ITLF women wing though allowed to proceed further later.

PTI, meanwhile, quoted Churachandpur deputy commissioner (DC) Dharun Kumar as saying that stopping the Governor, who was on her way to visit the relief camps and offer help, was not the right thing to do.

"If someone comes to your area, it's your duty to welcome the person.

The governor wants to do something good for the people and the treatment meted out to her was unfortunate," he said.

As the Governor's convoy proceeded towards Churachandpur to meet inmates of two relief camps, large number of women belonging to ITLF women wing stopped the convoy at the site for Wall of Remembrance at about 10.40m.Every Wednesday, womenfolk gather at the site and stage protest in demand for separate administration.

When the womenfolk asked the convoy to return back to Imphal, Governor Anusuiya immediately descended from her vehicle and sought some time to apprise the protestors about the purpose of her visit to the district.

The Governor told the protestors that she came to Churachandpur to do something good for the displaced people currently taking shelter in relief camps particularly assess conditions of displaced people at relief camps and ensuring medical and food supplies to them.

She conveyed that problems and demands of Kuki-Zo people had already been apprised to authority concerned and reiterated the commitment of central and state governments to bring back normalcy in the state.

Finally, ITLF women wing leader Mary Jone announced that the Governor be allowed to proceed.

After the brief halt, the Governor met CSO/JPO leaders at 27 Sector Assam Rifles post at Tuibong and then proceeded to EGA relief camp at Songgel and ECA relief camp at Tuibong.

Interacting with displaced people at the two camps, Anusuiya Uikey said that she feels sentiments of the inmates and is aware of their wishes and aspirations to return home and lead normal life.

She also acknowledged cooperation of the public which is helping prevent violent incidents in recent times thus creating a conducive atmosphere for peace to return.

Later, the Governor planted sapling at M Songgel ECA Church campus.

In collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur unit, the Anusuiya also distributed relief items including blankets, pillow, mattresses, hygiene kits, kitchen utensils and mosquito nets to inmates of both camps.

She also handed over monetary assistance to pregnant women, lactating mothers and patients with serious ailments.

A total of 755 inmates from 167 families were benefitted with the relief items distributed Wednesday.

Churachandpur DC Dharun Kumar, Addl SP Immanuel Intimate, SDOs, DLOs and officials accompanied the Governor during the visit.

The Governor, on her return from Churachandpur, visited Phubala high school relief camp in Bishnupur district and interacted with the displaced persons and heard their grievances.

She assured the inmates that they will be relocated to their respective homes permanently once normalcy is restored.

She also informed the inmates that central and state government are continuously working for peace and rehabilitation to their permanent houses.

She informed that relief and rehabilitation committee headed by justice Geeta Mittal has also visited the state to look into this matter.

Government also had a meeting with the people of Phougakchao who have return to their residence and heard their concerns and grievances.

Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram, SP Meghachandra and officials accompanied the Governor during her visit to relief camp.
