Silver Jubilee, foundation day celebrated

All Manipur Cheibi Association (AMCA) celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday with Manipur University of Culture vice chancellor Prof Paonam Gunindro as chief guest, AMCA president Lairellakpam Birahari Meetei as president, and retired associate professor Dr Haobam Indrakumar as special guest while AMCA founder president Okram Manglem Meetei, advisors Thengbaijam Ibohalbi Meetei and Warepam Nabachandra; MEETASI Sintakpurel Khundrakpam Surchandra Meitei and AMCA vice president Th Robindro were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Gunindro explained that Cheibi/Thang-Ta is an integral and inseparable part of the society, with the martial art form popular all-over Southeast Asia.
Around 25 years ago, systematised steps were taken up to preserve the art form, which not only teaches us about our culture, but also of family, decorum, rituals and various other aspects.
He then said that the efforts of various organisations have come to fruition with the inclusion of Cheibi/ Thang-Ta in school syllabi from Class IX-XII and also at university level now.
On the other hand, All Manipur Manpower Upliftment Centre (AMMUC) celebrated its 17th foundation day at its premises in Singjamei Chinga Makha on Wednesday.
The celebration was attended by senior advocate Nongmaithem Mahendra Singh as chief guest, AMMUC president Tourangbam Dhyanchand Singh as president and AMMUC Advisory Board S Bimolchandra Singh as guest of honour.
At the event, floral tributes also were offered to the portraits of the deceased members of the Centre.
