Manipur National Day observed

Manipur National Day was observed today to commemorate the first Manipur Legislative Assembly session held on October 18, 1948 .
The Coalition for Indigenes' Rights Campaign (CIRCA), Manipur and Tangleihada Manipur Kanba Lup (TMKL), Oinam jointly organised the Manipur National Day observance at Oinam Ushak Kangdabi community hall today.
Dr RK Nimai, Retd IAS; Advocate Irengbam Jugeshor; Advisor TMKL; Dhiren Sadokpam, Chief Editor, The Frontier Manipur; RK Tharaksana, president WASEDEV; Wahengbam Luwangleima, president IKAL; Longjam Ratan, president HERICOUN and Somorendro Thokchom, president CIRCA graced as the presidium members of the occasion, said a press release by CIRCA.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr RK Nimai stated that Manipur State Constitution before the merger to India was one of the most advanced constitutions despite some shortcomings and maintained that the leaders back then were patriotic and strove sincerely for the cause of their motherland Manipur.
He highlighted that 'Manipur adopted Universal Adult Franchise in 1948 even before the USA which is considered one of the most advanced countries in the world today' .
CIRCA president Somorendro Thokchom while speaking at the occasion, declared to urge the State Government to start commemorating this historical day at the State level as a State function.
In this regard, a memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister by the CIRCA president.
Thoubal
Manipur National Day Celebration Committee also commemorated the day at Irum Ningthou Ikop Laikol community hall in Papal in Thoubal district today.
The event was attended by social and cultural activist Ningthoucha Lancha; UFO secretary Y Meiraba, Islam Makakcha of UCORECH; SKL chairman L Gopal; Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims Moreh, chairman L Inaocha and Joint Committee on Affected Meetei Victims Manipur, chairman Kh Ratan among others as the dias members.
Hundreds of people from different places across the State also participated in the event.
Addressing the gathering, Ningthouja Lancha highlighted the significance of this momentous occasion.
He also informed that in the following days, discussions will be held across the State to take firm resolutions in connection with the ongoing communal crisis and demonstrations will be staged demanding for the actualisation of the resolutions or demands.
In today's programme, the issues and grievances of the people following the communal crisis were discussed
at length.
