Arrest Barish, JAC demands

Imphal, October 18 2023:
The JAC formed in connection with the firing incident at Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai has urged the relevant authorities to arrest ex-BJYM president Manoharmayum Barish Sharma who they said is a prime accused in the case.
They also urged the Government to let police investigate the fateful incident of October 14 firing incident without any interference of Ministers and MLAs.
Speaking to the media while visiting RK ongbi Medhapati and Nongmaithem Priyananda who sustained injuries in the incident at the Ortho Ward of JNIMS today, JAC convenor Chongtham Iboyaima lauded Imphal West police for arresting five persons involved in the case.

Claiming that the police, however, are unable to arrest the prime accused Barish Sharma and seize the weapons used in the crime till today, Iboyaima appealed to the Government to do the needful at the earliest.
Further urging all Ministers and MLAs not to interfere in the work of police, the JAC convenor cautioned that any MLAs or Ministers found shielding the accused will face the wrath of the people.
He thanked the Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam and every person who came out to aid the injured persons in their treatment.
RK ongbi Medhapati (53) who sustained bullet wounds on her left leg claimed that the group of armed goons who opened fire at them came with the intention to kill them.
Saying that she couldn't work despite being the only bread earner of her family as her husband is blind, Medhapati asserted that she will not forgive any of the accused even if they tender apologies for the crime they committed was intentional and heinous.
Nongmaithem Priyananda (43), s/o late N Mani on the other hand sustained injuries on both his legs and is undergoing treatment at the ICU of JNIMS.
Priyananda said that he came out of his home on that fateful day thinking that there was a quarrel in the locality.
Claiming that some 9 mm wielding goons started firing indiscriminately and he got injured in the process, he expressed desire for the Government to take misuse of firearms seriously and take up necessary actions.
Saying that though he has been selected to officiate sepak takraw in 37th National Games he may miss the chance due to the injuries, Priyananda urged the Government to make sure the culture of goondaism doesn't recur in Manipur.
Priyananda said that he has not received any aid from the Government in his treatment other than the assistance given by the local MLA and the people.
