All Manipur Cheibi Association celebrates silver jubilee foundation day

The All Manipur Cheibi Association (AMCA) today celebrated silver jubilee foundation day in a solemn function here at Manipur Press Club.
Prof Paonam Gunindro, Vice-Chancellor Manipur University of Culture; Lairenlakpam Birhari, president of All Manipur Cheibi Association; Haobam Indrakumar, Associate Prof (retd) Dr Haobam Indrakumar; Okram Manglem, founder president of AMCA; Thingbaijam Ibohalbi, advisor to AMCA; Warepam Nabachandra, advisor to AMCA and Shintakpurel Khundrakpam Surchandra Meitei attended the programme as presidium members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Paonam Gunindro noted that education activities are being carried out to impart and propagate the knowledge of Cheibi in every nook and corner of the State.
He was also positive of the initiatives taken up to preserve the traditional martial art form at SAI-Takyel and various other localities across many districts.
Lauding the continued success the State athletes have been achieving in the National and the international arena, he maintained that Cheibi is well suited to the soil of Manipur being an indigenous discipline.
He also encouraged growing generations to take up the discipline and help promote and preserve it in the long run.
AMCA president L Birhari, meanwhile, said that the association had successfully conducted a State level competition in Jiribam district and noted that preserving the discipline which is derived from indigenous games of Thang-Ta will help go a long way in preserving the culture of Manipuri society.
Citing the importance of the discipline, Birhari also called upon all sections of the society to come out and join in preserving and promoting Cheibi.
The motto of the association is to lead in shaping characters, teaching discipline, moral responsibilities and self reliability to the growing generation besides encouraging a healthy and fit society, he said.
