Thoubal, May 02 2024: As observed globally, Thoubal Municipal Council (TMC) observed 'International Labour Day' on the theme 'Social Justice and Decent Work for All' yesterday at the TMC campus located at Thoubal Wangmataba.

The International Labour Day observance was attended by TMC Caretaker Chairperson Thongam Shyamo Singh; Senior Chief Executive Officer Dr Samuel Moirangthem and TMC Ward no 16 Caretaker Councilor Mutum Ibobi Singh as the presidium members.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Thongam Shyamo Singh lauded the significant contributions of labourers in the functioning of a society.

Maintaining that the contributions of labourers are vital for the functioning and progress of a society, he said that a society cannot exist without them.

It is of key importance to recognise their rights and address their grievances and needs, he remarked.

Acknowledging the importance of workers, the Government is taking up many welfare schemes and measures are being taken up to increase their wages, he said.

As a part of the programme, the workers of TMC were honoured by presenting simple gifts.
