Imphal, December 17 2008:
THE VILLAGERS of Ukha Kuki village who fled their homes when mobs from Kwakta began to attack them yesterday after a clash with four gunmen that left at least two people (an attacker and a villager) dead and two persons injured, were yet to return to their homes for fear of attacks recurring.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the two persons killed in the incident have been handed over to their respective families to perform the last rites today.
The armed man lynched by the crowd was identified as Lhunkhogam Shingson (27) son of John Shingsen of Heijang village, Churachandpur while the other man burnt to dead when a house was set ablaze by the irate mob was identified as Manglam Haokip (45) son of late Mangthang Haokip of Ukha village.

Manglam was survived by his two children after his wife died some year back.
Now the two children had become orphan.
According to the surviving children, at the time when crowd stormed the village their father Manglam was sleeping in his bed while they were in the church located behind their house to teach song for the Christmas.
The house was burnt down when their father was still sleeping inside the house.
As he had hearing problem he might not hear the people storming and burning the house, the children said.
Manglam dead body was found charred in the burnt down house beyond recognition.
Apart from the house of the Manglam, other houses at neighbourhood were also damaged in the attack by the crowd.
The house of Somthang Haokip son of Loukholun Haokip, Thangjang son of Mangkholen, Ngaikhosing son of Doupao and Shimhou Haokip son of Chungkhloun were also totally razed to ground in the incident.
The families of the houses were left nothing except the clothing at their back.
The villagers who escaped from the crowd took refuge at the houses of villages located at the foothill of the Thangjing hill and Churachandpur and they are still return to their home.
The houses were remaining guarding by the police and security forces.
