Imphal, December 17 2008:
Under the theme of 'Mayai Kaba Chinzakna Cheitheng Phanglaba Ereipakchasingda Kathoklaba Ee', the 3rd mega voluntary blood donation camp was organised by All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) at the Blood Bank of RIMS, Lamphelpat here today.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ph Parijat and secretary general of AMADA Mayai Loishang Ph Phoni Meetei, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Dr Y Mohen and Senior Blood Bank Officer of RIMS Dr Y Bijoy attended the inaugural function of the camp as chief guest, president, guest of honour and special guest respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Parijat said that blood is the most vital component of the human body and the longevity of human life depends on the activities of the blood.
So mass awareness on the importance of blood donation should be spread all over the State particularly the hills and rural areas so as encourage the people to come out voluntarily and donate their blood.
He informed that the families of any blood donors would be given blood, when they required, free of cost on showing the certificate of having donated the blood in the past.
The Minister also appreciated the efforts being taken up by AMADA in this regard.
In his presidential address, Phoni Meetei said henceforth AMADA would give more emphasis on erasing the fear of the general public that it would take months to recover if they donate blood.
Dr Bijoy observed that blood is something which could not be purchased or brought from Pharmacies like other medicines during emergency.
So stocking up the blood banks from organising such voluntary blood donation is the only remedy to save the lives of the people during emergency cases, he said, adding that an individual can donate blood four times in a year.
All together, 23 volunteers donated their blood during the camp held at RIMS's Blood Bank today.
A similar camp was also reportedly organised by AMADA at JN Hospital, Porompat.
