Beacon of hope for displaced students : Books, study materials distributed

Bishnupur, May 18 2023: In an attempt to constructively engage school going children, unfortunately deprived from education due to ongoing turbulence in Manipur, Indian Army provisioned study materials to children in relief camps of Bishnupur district by distributing basic writing materials and note books to ensure that they are engaged in studying and they are disconnected from stress and trauma.

The volunteers at the relief camps were urged to conduct some basic classes for atleast few hours guaranteeing these students did not fall behind much in their studies and constructively engage them towards creative activities in pursuit of peace and harmony in the region.

The distribution drive was carried out in five relief camps wherein more than 250 students were provided study material.

With an aim to help the students who are in distress amid the prevailing tense situation and to ensure that their studies remain unaffected, CC Higher Secondary School 2002 Batch Alumni presented textbooks, notebooks, stationery items and a carry bag each to Class IX and X students who are staying in relief camps.

The alumni team presented the above items to students from Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts who are taking refuge in relief camps opened in Moirang Municipal Council since they have been rendered homeless by the unabated communal violence which erupted on May 3 last.

Speaking at a distribution programme held today at Ibudhou Thangjing Guest House Relief Camp, Dr S Bitam who is an alumnus of CC Higher Secondary School 2002 Batch said that they took up the initiative to distribute books and other items to Class IX and X students acknowledging the pitiable conditions of these students who are under acute distress.

He maintained that the books and study materials have been procured through donations made by the alumni and are being distributed to the affected students after coming across their distress call and acknowledging their eagerness to study.

The MLA of Moirang AC Thongam Shanti also made the request for the same, he added.

Dr S Bitam further assured that similar distribution programmes will also be carried out in other relief camps.

The Moirang AC MLA who was also present at the occasion said to divert the minds of the students who have been impacted badly by the prevailing communal conflict and to help them focus on their studies, such philanthropic activities have been taken up.

He thanked the alumni of CC Higher Secondary School 2002 Batch for instilling a ray of hope and optimism among the students amid this grim situation.

The MLA also informed that a special coaching session for the displaced students will be held soon by contacting the teachers in Moirang AC.

Further he appealed to all concerned to donate study materials for students of all classes.

Lastly he called for peace and restraint to resolve this unfortunate communal clash at the earliest for a unified and progressive Manipur.

Meanwhile, NSS Cell of Mangolnganbi College, Ningthoukhong also distributed books, toys and other items to 50 students who are staying in the relief camp opened in the college.
