ILPS demand : CPI observes hunger strike; protests held

Imphal, August 11 2015 :
Communist Party of India (CPI), Imphal East on Tuesday observed a one-day hunger strike to demand introduction of ILPS and to expedite the completion of the judicial inquiry into the killing of Sapam Robinhood and the text of the Naga Peace Accord.
On the sidelines of the protest, Imphal East CPI Branch Secretariat Member Athokpam Lala told media persons that the peace accord must not harm the interest of Manipur.
The BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre headed by Narendra Modi signed the agreement with NSCN (IM) on August 3 .
Prime Minister Modi did not consult his council of ministers and the concerned Northeast States in the signing of the pact, Lala said at the demonstration held at Ima Lai Khutlembi Shanglen, Khurai Sajor Leikai.
CPI strongly opposes any plan by the Centre to redraw the territory of Manipur, Lala added.
On the introduction of a fresh ILP Bill, the CPI leader said the State Government is unlikely to present it by August 15 which is a deadline set by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) .
The ILP movement has already completed one month but the Manipur Government is still reluctant to act positively to fulfill the demand, he alleged.
Meanwhile, a protest rally was staged by more than 100 members of Mini Water Tankers Union, Khurai and Khurai Apunba Nupi Lup.
The protesters shouted slogans demanding immediate implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) and punishment to police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood.
The rally started from Salangthong marched through several areas of Khurai Lamlong bazaar, Kongpal, Ayangpalli road and Singjamei.
An ILP support committee of All Manipur Petrol Pump Dealers organized a sit-in to demand introduction of ILPS in Manipur.
All filling stations in Imphal remained closed till 12 noon.
On the same demand, All Manipur Body Building and Fitness Association of Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal District staged a sit-in at the Keishampat Leimajam Mamang Sega Road community hall.
