Imphal, July 10 2015 :
United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Friday expressed deep shock over the death of Sapam Robinhood (16), a Class XI student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, during ILP protest on July 8.A UCM statement stated that the fatal incident was preventable from the side of the State Police and shared the sorrow of the bereaved family.
It said the death of Robinhood during police crackdown was the result of the Government's arrogant and indifferent attitude shown towards the voice of the people.
The committee said the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has shown stiff opposition to the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants & Migrant Workers Bill 2015 (MRVT & MW Bill 2015) as it lacks the much-needed provision to safeguard the indigenous people and to regulate the influx of non-locals into the State.
UCM thinks that the Government should change its stand and fulfill the people's demand and contended that no bills opposed by people have ever been passed by any Government.
It demanded that the controversial MRVT & MW Bill 2015 be withdrawn immediately in the interests of the people.
The government should make efforts to incorporate the key 'five points' suggested by JCILPS.
The committee appealed to the Government to fully exercise its political wisdom at this crucial juncture and cautioned that the situation could become worse if the Government is falters to act according to the wish of the people.
UCM said detaining a few leaders of JCILPS by police cannot be a right choice to solve the present ILP protest and condemned the Government for detaining its president Elangbam Johnson in police lock-up for one night.
