The Apunba Football Finance Association has accused the family operating Poirei Lamdam Football Academy, Thoubal district of swindling tens of children under the ruse of training them at Kick Star Football Club, Bangalore among other things.
It may be noted that Apunba Football Finance Association is an organisation formed by the aggrieved guardians of the aforementioned children.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club this evening, Thingbaijam Sushila, secretary, Apunba Football Finance Association alleged that Ngangbam Surchandra from Thoubal Leishangthem Khongmanung who operates Poirei Lamdam Football Academy, his wife Memory and son Kadamjit had convinced 34 children that they will be trained at Kick Star Football Club, Bangalore and their fooding, lodging as well as academics will be taken care of.
With such assurances, the trio had allegedly collected sums ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 lakh from the parents of each of the 34 kids.
After holding a final trial at Toubungkhok, Kadamjit took the 34 youths to Bangalore on February 22, 2023 .
Upon reaching Bangalore, only one child was taken in for football training while the rest were turned down.
According to Sushila, the remaining 33 kids were flown home by their parents and guardians in March after they faced many difficulties with regard to their living conditions.
She further shared that appeals to refund their money had fallen on deaf ears and that the trio had absconded from their home.
In view of such circumstances, she appealed to the State Government to trace the alleged con artists and take stringent legal action against them.
In addition, Poirei Lamdam Football Academy Thoubal district operated by the accused should be shut down permanently and the money swindled from the parents should be returned, Sushila demanded.
