Imphal, January 29: A high level delegation led by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today inspected the developmental works being taken up in Jiribam sub-division.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed main building, library and auditorium of Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister noted that development of adequate infrastructure in Jiribam sub-division is essential before it is upgraded as a full-fledged revenue district.

It is for this reason that the Government has been paying attention on development of all the necessary infrastructure in the sub-division, he added.

While disclosing that the State Cabinet has taken a resolution to the effect of upgrading the Public Health Engineering Department of the sub-division to the division level, the Chief Minister observed that Jiribam is bound to become an important place in view of the arrival of the railway head and its trading potential.

Later on, the delegation inspected the progress of the construction work of a Super Market complex at Jiri Bazar.

Major portion of the market complex being constructed at a estimated cost of Rs 24.10 crores with National Building Construction Company as the implementing authority has been completed.

The delegation also inspected the possible sites for setting up of a guest house at Jiribam, a bus terminus at Chandrapur, Jiribam-Tupul Railway Station at Gularthol, an IRB Bn headquarters and a police training sub-centre at Yairolpokpi.

The sites where a 50-bedded hospital is proposed to be constructed at Ningsingkhun for which the foundation stone had been laid already, the proposed sports complex at Bidyanagar and ADC complex were also inspected by the delegates on after another.

Prior to that the high-level delegation led by the Chief Minister inspected the progress of the Thoubal Multipurpose Project being constructed over Thoubal river, the point where the boundaries of Senapati, Ukhrul and Imphal East meet.

The construction of Thoubal Multipurpose Project commenced in 1980 along with the approval of the Planning Commission.

The revised estimated cost of project is now Rs 715 crores.

The project include an earthern dam of 1074 metre long and 66 metre width, one barrage at Keithelmanbi, 57-km long main canal and a power generator which can generate 7.5 megawatt of power.

After its completion, the project is targeted to irrigate around 33,449 hectares of agricultural land and produce 10 million gallon of water daily.

The barrage at Keithelmanbi has already started functioning since 1991.The earthern dam of the project being taken up by IFCD is constructed by M/s Progressive Construction Ltd, Hyderabad and the spillway of the dam by M/s Ansal Properties & Infrastructures Ltd, New Delhi.

Revenue Minister Th Debendra Singh, RD & PR Minister Md Allauddin Khan, Transport Minister L Jayantakumar Singh, YAS & IFC Minister N Biren Singh and Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh were among other who accompanied the Chief Minister during his tour of Jiribam today.
