Imphal, November 28 2019:
After several efforts to take up Loktak Downstream Project which would generate 66 MW of power, the same initiative has fallen into a limbo.
Based on the rates prevalent in 2015, the estimated cost of the project is Rs 12050 crore.

Even forest and environment clearance was also obtained, sources informed.
NHPC Chairman and Managing Director KN Singh came to the State on April 6, 2017 and announced before residents of villages which would be affected by the project that the project would be initiated within six months.

KN Singh also talked with the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary on April 7, 2017 and the Power Minister the next day on initiating the Loktak Downstream Project at the earliest possible time.
According to the blueprint, the power project's dam as well as the powerhouse should be constructed at Tousang Khullen, about 10 Kms away from Khou-pum, the sources added.
