Man held for brutal attack on scribes

Imphal
police have arrested a 30-year-
old man for allegedly attacking
three scribes and a caretaker of
Manipur Press Club at Kei-
shamthong last night.
The man has been identi-
fied as Maisnam Dujon Singh
s/o M Kullachandra of Kei-
shamthong Top Leirak.
He has been remanded to
police custody till January 15
after he was produced before
Chief Judicial Magistrate,
Imphal West under FIR No
9(1) 2016 of Imphal police
station under Section 326 of
IPC (causing grievous hurt by
dangerous weapons) today.

at Keishamthong to have pan
when they returned home
from work at around 9.30 last
night.
Soon after they stopped
there, Dujon suddenly ap-
peared at the scene and
allegedly attacked them with a
bamboo pole without any rea-
son leaving all of them
seriously injured.
They were rushed to
JNIMS hospital with the help
of locals.
Condition of Athokpam
Jiten is stated to be still seri-
ous while other AMWJU
members have been dis-
charged.
Dujon was arrested from
near his residence by a team
of Imphal police station last
night itself.
Meanwhile, AMWJU has
submitted a memorandum to
Deputy Chief Minister Gai-
khangam, who also holds
Home portfolio demanding
exemplary punishment to
Dujon under the law of the
land and timely submission of
chargesheet against him for
his alleged life attempt on
three journalists and caretaker
of Manipur Press Club.
The scribes' body also
demanded the Deputy Chief Minister to take stringent action against the three
policemen on duty who stood and watched the incident and refused
to arrest the attacker.
The union also demanded that all the scribes especially
Athokpam Jiten, who is still undergoing treatment at JNIMS
hospital, be adequately compensated.
Earlier in the day, AMWJU Standing Committee and Editors
of different media houses held a joint emergency meeting
with AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai in the chair
at Manipur Press Club.
The meeting strongly condemned the
brutal attack on the three journalists and Manipur Press Club
caretaker.
The meeting also flayed the policemen on duty at
Keishamthong for not taking any prompt action against the
culprit.
On the otherhand, AMWJU and Editors thanked JNIMS
Director Prof N Deven, senior doctors and nurses for their
personal presence at JNIMS hospital and giving necessary
medical attention to the injured scribes till last night.
AMWJU and Editors also thanked the elders and youth of
Keishamthong Kabui and Meira Paibees of Yaiskul for their
timely intervention and necessary assistance provided to the
injured scribes.
Meanwhile, Editors' Guild Manipur has also strongly condemned
the attack.
The Guild demanded that exemplary
punishment be given to Dujon at the earliest.
