Imphal, July 29 2015:
Piling the pressure on the Government, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has today asserted that there would be no let up in the mass movement to demand an effective legislation to protect the indigenous people and announced that a series of civil disobedience movement will be started.
In a statement, JCILPS urged the people to give freeway to essential services such as ambulance, water supply, the media (press) religious activities and electricity during any course of agitation and expressed regret for any inconveniences caused to these essential services earlier.
Asserting that the State Government has so far done nothing to earn the trust of the people, JCILPS said that instead of drafting a legislation to protect the indigenous people, the Government came up with a Bill in the interest of the non-local people.

Levelling other charges, JCILPS said that instead of penalising the police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood, the Government has been protecting them and added that closure of educational institutions since July 9 violates the Right to Education Act.
Instead of getting down to the business of drafting a fresh Bill, the Government is trying to buy time by asking the people to contribute their suggestions in the proposed new draft Bill, claimed JCILPS.
This is against the earlier assurance that the new draft Bill will be ready within three days.
Urging the people not to be misled by the false promises, JCILPS said that as part of the ongoing people's movement, now a civil disobedience movement will be launched soon.
During the movement, there will be rallies, sit-in protests, road blocks, dharnas etc, said JCILPS and urged the people to extend their co-operation as before.
It is better for the Government to realise that trying to suppress the people's movement by using the police personnel will backfire, said JCILPS and added that the the Government should be sincere and honest.
