"Manipuri Sheireng gi Numit" celebrated

Fiction & Poetry Club, Manipur celebrated "Manipuri Sheirenggi Numit" at the auditorium of DIPR in Keishampat today.
"Manipuri Sheireng gi Numit" is observed every year on the "Mera gi Thanin (Full Moon)" in the Meitei Lunar Calendar to promote Manipuri poetry & literature.
The celebration was graced by Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, Convenor, Prof Rajen Toijambana; Sea Waves, Manipur former president Yengkhom Indira and Fiction & Poetry Club Manipur president Dr Heisnam Budhichandra as presidium members.
During the event, floral tributes were offered to the deceased poets/writers of Manipuri language.
Renowned poets Salam Tomba of Toubul and Kengba Yengkhom of Kakching were felicitated in recognition of their contribution towards Manipuri language & literature.
The 23rd edition of "MAPAO" journal published by Fiction & Poetry Club Manipur was also released.
The main highlight of the event was the three poem recitation sessions chaired by Sahitya Akademi awardee Lanchenba Meetei, Sahitya Akademi awardee Birendrajit Naorem and Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, former Convenor Nongmaithem Kirankumar.
Moreover, "Manipuri Sheireng gi Numit, 2024" was also observed at the University of Delhi, New Delhi on Tuesday.
The event was organised under the supervision of Dr G Bijoykumar Sharma, Assistant Professor Department of Modem Indian Languages & Literary Studies, University of Delhi.
It was attended by Kahcinganglu Thaimei, student of Indraprastha College for Women; Yumkhaibam Nadeem, student of Zakir Husain Delhi College and Max Waikhom, student of Zakir Husain Delhi College as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr G Bijoykumar said that the Department has been organising the yearly literary event to promote Manipuri poetry and literature.
He asserted that the event was participated by a number of Manipuri students studying in different colleges under University of Delhi, Recitation of poems written by the students and renowned writers of Manipuri Language was the main highlight of the event.
