Imphal, June 09 2015 :
Electricity Employees' Union (MEEU) has claimed that the Power Department has tackled power woes in the State in a great extent.
Leaflets were distributed to people travelling around Keishampat on Tuesday by the union with an aim to improve relations between the department and consumers, MEEU secretary Laishram Rajen told Hueiyen Lanpao.
He said since the Power Department was converted to a corporation, the power supplies in Manipur have considerably picked up.
"Consumers are now getting power most of the day" .
Considering this development, the department needs to maintain proper close relationship with the end users, Rajen said.
"MEEU has been working hard to satisfy people in every nook and corner of the State since 1967.But there are also inconveniences in the power supply system as we purchase it from other States, too.
This has created a problem since there are frauds in the management of the power supply," he claimed.
He said Manipur's due share is not available from the Loktak Hydel Project run by the National Hydro Power Corporation.
The multi-crore Lokchao Micro Hydel has been left useless, he added.
After completion of hydro electric projects at Tuibai, Churachandpur District, Irang, Tamenglong, Pabram, Khongnem and Senapati district, there will be no shortage of power in all sectors, Rajen said.
He recounted that the British set up two micro-hydro sets of 100 KW and 56 KW at Leimakhong in 1930 and since then power supply in Imphal was started.
