Four candidates of 12-Chandel DCC have clarified that they had not resorted to proxy voting at 12/4 Kanakhu polling station on June 6 ADC repoll.
BJP candidate SR Ngamhlung, NPF candidate HT Kilaching and two Independent candidates H David Anal and PS Ngammung Anal while addressing a press meet yesterday at Chandel said that they had not resorted to proxy voting as accused by another candidate.
It may be mentioned that Sng Larson, the chief agent of Independent candidate Ts Willingston Anal had submitted a complaint to the DEO concerned demanding disqualification of the four candidates for violating poll norms.
Speaking to the media, SR Ngamhlung said that the repoll at the particular polling station was necessitated due to rampant proxy voting by Ts Willingston.
And on the repoll day, all other candidates were not present at the polling station.
Hulang David Anal said that no election flag, poster and banner were put up near the polling station as alleged.
He said that the house of Willingston is just about 20 meters away from the polling station.
Meanwhile, the president of BJP Konphung ADC segment of Tamenglong district has accused a particular political partyof threatening and harassing voters during the ADC election.
It also alleged the party of using militants to coerce voters and force them to vote in the party candidate's favour.
In a statement, the BJP Konphung ADC segment also urged the State and Central Govt to terminate all polling officers as they failed to rise or perform their duties when militants forced the public.
"The BJP will win the seat easily had the votes been cast in a free and fair manner," he said.
Voters were coerced to vote for the particular candidate at Konphung, Piulong (Bunning) and Taipram (Ndai), it said.
At Takou, the polling officers were hiding the ballot box at the residence of the party candidate's chief agent, it added.
