Imphal, November 30 2014 :
Joining in the league in expressing views on the life ban imposed against Laishram Sarita Devi by All India Boxing Association (AIBA) following the ace pugilist's refusal to accept medal in the Incheon Asian Games over a controversial judgment, Olympic weightlifter Ngangbam Sonia Chanu said that the incident involving Sarita who is one of the promising boxers of the country during the medal presentation ceremony was disheartening.
In a chit-chat with Hueiyen Lanpao, Ng Sonia maintained that every sports player irrespective of the event dreams of desire goal which he/she would want to achieve but it would be the worst setback for any sports player to face suspension or life ban in the midst of his/her prime sporting career.
Imposing a life ban against Sarita who is eyeing an Olympic medal is same like ruining her career.
The unfortunate incident could have been dealt differently rather than imposing life ban against the pugilist, she asserted.
Stating that Sarita had been already restricted from participating in the 8th World Women's Boxing Championship 2014 as a punishment for her behavior shown during the medal presentation ceremony, she made a fervent appeal to the concerned sports bodies to lift the life ban against Sarita at the earliest and ensure her participation in the Olympic Games 2016 to be held in Rio De Janerio.
The Olympic weightlifter then exuded confidence that Sarita would fetch an Olympic medal some day.
