Pallel JAC calls off agitation

The Joint Action Committee against the abduction of S Tongkhohao Mate, a class IX student of Ideal High School, Pallel, by Manipur Police Commando personnel, has called off the proposed agitations by the committee today.
At the same time, the JAC was also dissolved.
Talking to media persons, the committee chairman Khaineo Lupho, said the JAC decided to call off the proposed agitations as most of its demands have been met by the Government.
The JAC submitted a memorandum putting up a charter of demands to the representatives of the State Government led by IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip.
Disclosing the terms and conditions of their talk with the Government, Lupho said the abducted student was released unconditionally and the medical expenses of the injured persons were also borne by the State Government.
Morever, he added, a departmental enquiry has been constituted to punish the erring police personnel involved in abduction and torture of the innocent student.
According to the agreement, Police Commando personnels would no longer conduct frisking and checking of vehicles along Imphal-Moreh road at Thamlapokpi area and in front of the Police gate.
They are however, free to perform their duties at Pallel Police Gate where police, Custom Preventive Force, Excise and Forest Personnels check vehicles plying along Imphal-Moreh road.
As per understanding, the Police Commando personnel should not venture into the surrounding villages without prior information to the concerned village chiefs or village authority, Lupho added.
