Implementation of the ambitious Act East Policy should ensure development in the northeastern States, asserted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PM was speaking during a reception programme organized by BJP Manipur Pradesh at its office located at Nityapat Chuthek here today.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Narendra Modi said that much importance is being given to Act East Policy erstwhile Look East Policy, while adding that implementation of the policy should purposefully serve northeastern States and improve its connectivity.
Conceding that approval for setting up of Sports University in the State has been already given, Narendra Modi who has won hearts of million maintained that a toll free number has been opened to register in BJP of which one may give miss call to the number for registration.
The PM called upon the people to register in BJP and further strengthen position of the party which is determined to bring in collective growth and development in the country.
Th Chaoba, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh who was present at the occasion appealed to the PM to intervene in restoration of National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam) within a stipulated time as early restoration of the highway which is in a deplorable condition is the wishes of the people of the State.
Chaoba also appealed to the PM to ensure that the proposed Sports University is constructed at an undisputed site and develop the State like Gujarat.
Upon the arrival of the PM at the office of BJP Manipur Pradesh, he was accorded warm welcome by members of the party unit led by its president Th Chaoba.
A traditional headwear was presented to the PM as a mark of honor.
Gifts were also presented to him by O Malesh, president of BJP Yuva Morcha, Manipur; N Ibemcha, president of BJP Mahila Morcha, Manipur; Kayasi, senior party leader; Yanglet Haokip; Najir Hussain, president of Minority Morcha; Shah Musha, senior member and Kishan Prasad Thakur.
A memorandum was also submitted to PM Narendra Modi by BJP Manipur Pradesh urging him to restore NH 37 at the earliest; deployment of Highway Protection Forces along Imphal-Dimapur road (NH 2); repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958; early construction of Sports University to facilitate sports players of the State and upgradation of Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) to the level of AIIMS.
The memorandum also urged constitution of Monitoring System to monitor implementation of SSA, RMSA, UGC schemes in Higher Education; setting up of National Film Institute in the State to produce fine artistes and early commencement of Imphal-Mandalay bus service.
Needs for availing adequate irrigation facilities in the State; conservation of wetlands to maintain environment and ecology and enactment of law to regulate the rampant influx of outsiders into the State etc were some of the points highlighted in the memorandum.
