DEO Jiribam flags off polling teams for Vote from Home facilitation of senior citizens, PwDs

Jiribam, April 15 2024:
District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner (DEO/DC) Jiribam Krishna Kumar, IAS flagged off polling teams for the absentee voters of Jiribam District from the DC Office Complex, Chingdong Leikai, Jiribam.
The polling teams will facilitate Vote from Home (VfH) for the eligible elderly voters and persons with disabilities (PwDs) in connection with the 18th Lok Sabha Election, 2024 in respect of 40-Jiribam Assembly Segment of 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency.
Altogether 65 eligible and willing voters of the District including 51 Senior Citizens who are above 85 years and 14 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) will exercise their franchise using postal ballot at their respective homes/places.
It is worth noting that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a major step towards promoting inclusive and accessible elections by extending the Vote from Home facility to senior citizens above 85 years and PwDs.
Two polling teams each consisting of one Micro Observer, two Polling Officers, a videographer and a team of security personnel began visiting the houses of the Absentee Voters since today morning.
The DEO instructed the polling teams to take utmost care to ensure free and fair voting adhering strictly to the instructions and guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
The home voting facility has provided an opportunity for several senior citizens and PwDs in Jiribam district to exercise their right to vote through postal ballots in the 18th Lok Sabha Election, 2024 minimizing their difficulties of travelling to the polling stations.
The facility has helped in promoting equal opportunities for all and ensuring that no one is left behind in the electoral process.
Superintendent of Police Jiribam A Ghanashyam Sharma, IPS; Assistant Returning Officer/Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam Thokchom Manoranjan Singh, MCS; Additional SP, Jiribam Thomas Thokchom, MPS, other officers and officials of the District Election Office, District Police and representatives of Political Parties were also present during the flag off ceremony.
