Thoubal, June 09 2026:
The Thoubal District Bar Association (TDBA) has demanded an unconditional apology from the Law Department, Government of Manipur, alleging repeated instances of institutional neglect and breach of protocol during an official function held within its jurisdiction.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the association expressed strong dissatisfaction over the conduct of the Law Department during the inauguration of the exclusive NIA Court at Khangabok on June 8 .
According to the TDBA, invitation cards for the event were delivered only on the evening of June 7, leaving little time for members of the association to make necessary arrangements to attend the programme.
The Association also alleged that during the official welcome address, Principal Secretary (Law) Arun Kumar Sinha failed to specifically acknowledge the Thoubal District Bar Association, referring instead to advocates present as merely "members of the Bar" .
The TDBA described the omission as part of a recurring pattern of disregard towards the Association, citing a similar incident during the inauguration of the G+3 Court Complex in 2020.Maintaining that it is an important stakeholder in the administration of justice within the district, the Association said official functions conducted within its territorial jurisdiction should appropriately recognise the host Bar Association as a matter of institutional propriety and professional courtesy.
The TDBA further criticised the omission of Khangabok AC MLA O Surjakumar Singh from the list of dignitaries acknowledged during the function, describing it as a breach of public protocol and an affront to the constituency's elected representative.
While reaffirming its commitment to maintaining cordial relations with judicial and government institutions, the Association stated that it would continue to safeguard its institutional dignity and interests.
It also warned that further action may be considered if a formal apology is not issued by the Law Department.
