Imphal, May 02 2024: The Federation of Civil Societies (FOCS) has appealed to the public to attend the people's convention which would be held tomorrow (May 3) in remembrance of ethnic cleansing of Meiteis from Churachandpur, Moreh and other places on May 3, 2023 .

Speaking to media persons at the Thongju Boroimakhong office of Manipur Women Federation (MWF) this afternoon, FOCS president Th Manihar said that May 3 will remain a dark day in the history of Manipur.

It was on May 3, 2023 that the Meiteis were attacked by heavily armed Kukis and their followers, and driven out from Churachandpur, Moreh, Ikou and other places, Manihar said.

In remembrance of this ethnic cleansing of Meiteis, FOCS would hold a public convention at Yangoiningthou Community Hall, Bishnupur under the banner "Ema Leibakta Singnarakpa Numit" .

The basic idea behind the commemorative event cum public convention is protection of Meiteis and other indigenous peoples from attacks by Kukis and outsiders, Manihar said.
