Kangpokpi, August 22 2026:
A review meeting of the District Level Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) Committee was held under the chairmanship of Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner and NCORD Chairperson Mahesh Chaudhari to assess and strengthen ongoing efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse in the district.
The meeting focused on strengthening coordination among various agencies to curb the inflow of illicit substances and address the consumption of tobacco and alcohol.
Chairing the meeting, Mahesh Chaudhari directed the concerned officials to create area-specific WhatsApp groups comprising representatives of the District Police, Central forces and Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) to ensure seamless communication and real-time response.
Reviewing the action plans, the DC stressed that the present period was crucial for eradicating and containing illegal poppy cultivation before the harvesting season.
He directed the concerned SDOs, Officers-in-Charge and Central forces to identify and map areas where illegal cultivation is taking place and take necessary measures to prevent harvesting.
He further directed that warning circulars be issued to Village Chiefs and Village Councils, cautioning that they would be held directly responsible if illicit cultivation was found on land falling under their respective jurisdictions.
Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta shared security insights and outlined schemes of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) providing financial assistance for alternative farming and livelihoods.
The SDOs were instructed to coordinate with the concerned OCs to identify and submit details of villagers willing to adopt alternative livelihoods through NCB-funded schemes.
The NCORD Chairperson also directed the Chief Medical Officer to furnish details of pharmaceutical shops in the district, take action against unlicensed outlets and strictly enforce the mandatory installation of CCTV cameras.
Following inputs from the SDOs, CMO, BSF and CRPF regarding their operational requirements, the DC assured that the matters raised would be looked into and addressed.
The meeting further discussed the movement and use of urea in the district.
The Chairperson requested the SP and other concerned officials to inspect large consignments of urea entering Kangpokpi district, while Agriculture Department officials were directed to submit detailed reports on the total quantity of urea supplied to the district.
