Imphal, October 12 2010:
The persisting Zeliangrong imbroglio on nomenclature has prompted one of its tribes to distance from either group of the Zeliangrong apex bodies.
Zeliangrong Union (ZU) and Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) are engaging in tussle for sometime now each one claiming itself as the apex organisation of the Zeliangrong community.
The three tribes-Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei as a whole is known as Zeliangrong.
On Tuesday, Liangmai Naga Council-Manipur (LNC-M) has said that it cannot be part of either Zeliangrong Union (ZU) nor the Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) as long as the impasse prevails over the nomenclature.
"We have no objection to any nomenclature but we do not want to be a part of any controversy either, which is detrimental to the Zeliangrong community," asserted Ch.
Dithinbou, president of Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur on Tuesday.
The LNC chief went on to state that the Liangmai tribe wants the unity of the Zeliangrong community and supporting one group and discarding the other amounts to furthering the process of disharmony in the Zeliangrong community.
The LNC also said that it condemns the act of creating disunity among the Zeliangrong people whatsoever, adding, "LNC will never endorse any move or finalisation of things if the decision is to be taken without intimation or consultation with the Liangmai body by the concerned authority of the Zeliangrong community" .
Meanwhile, citing the October 6 Tamei mishap where four persons got killed, the LNC rues that due to the poor facilities at the Tamei Primary Health Centre (PHC) those people who had chances of survival lost their precious lives on the fateful day.
Four people including three from Imphal and one from Tamei area died when a vehicle they were boarding fell into a gorge near Tamei on October 6 afternoon due to deplorable road condition.
The Liangmai apex body highlighted that a single doctor with least equipments is 'manning' the Tamei PHC.
The LNC opined that had the provision of oxygen available on that fateful day of October 6, the story would have been otherwise.
The Liangmai body then stated that the I.T Road is one of the oldest roads in Manipur but the State Government continues to shower its indifferent attitude towards this important road.
"Every year landslides have been occurring along the I.T Road and the numerous accidents resulted in the losses of several lives are never new things but the State Government is callous towards the plights of the people who are depending on the very road," fumes the Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur.
It then lauded the 10th Dogra Regiment stationed at Tamei for carrying out the Good Samaritan works by clearing the slides whenever the calamity happens making the life of the people easier.
