Imphal, February 09, 2011:
Outbreak of diarrhoea claimed lives of two infants at Khoupum valley of Tamenglong district.
According to a press release issued by Khoupum Area Village Authority Council, the condition may become more aggravated in coming days as the disease has affected many other children.
The council said that many children whose parents do not afford to bring them to Imphal for treatment are left in the mercy of god as there is no doctor at PHC Khoupum.
It added that the two kids, Gailiangpou Kamei (6 months) s/o Kaguigai and Gaigongthui Riamei (7 months) s/o Tanaichung died immediately after they reached Imphal for treatment.
The council urged the concerned authority to immediately depute medical team in the valley and ensure that doctors are available at Khoupum PHC all the time.
It also demanded the Government to penalise the doctors whose absence allegedly claimed two infants.
The council also urged the concerned authority to take up immediate action against an SO of PWD who also worked as a sub-contractor in the construction of Khoupum IB.
It alleged that the SO had withdrawn Rs 11 lakhs in the name of construction of the IB without executing any work.
