Chavang Kut celebrated at Guwahati in gaiety

Kangpokpi, November 02 2017: As part of the worldwide celebration of Chavang Kut, Kuki community at Guwahati and Shillong jointly celebrated the festival on Wednesday at Guwahati with pomp and gaiety .

The festival organized by Kuki Welfare Association (KWA), Guwahati under the theme, "How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity" (Psalm 133:1) was celebrated at GMC Auditorium, Guwahati where the historic Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919) was also commemorated .

Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, who was supposed to grace the occasion as chief guest could not turn up owing to emergency official matter .

WL Hangshing, IRS, Central Goods and Service Tax and Customs, NER Shillong attended the celebration as guest of honour while DP Haokip, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai attended as Kut Pa (Kut father) .

Underlining the importance of unity, Kut Pa, DP Haokip said that our forefathers who were united fought the mighty British for three years during the Anglo-Kuki War which has been recorded by the British as the longest, largest and the costliest military operation in the whole of India since the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 .

He said that time has come for all to promote the celebration of Chavang Kut for unity and develop as a platform to seek the blessing of God so that the Almighty would definitely bless "our Nation."
The Kut Pa also cautioned the younger generation of the Kuki community not to use social media for discussing unnecessary issues but rather take the advantages of it for their educational purposes .

Cultural troupes from Hmar, Zomi, Baite, Guwahati Lawm, Maikhuli KCK and KSO Guwahati exhibited various cultural dances show casing the unity and oneness through culture and identity while KWS, Guwahati Choir and Hmar Welfare enthralled the huge crowd with their melodious voice .

A documentary film on Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919) produced by Kut Media Team under the aegis of Kuki Welfare Association was aired for public view in the auditorium while St.

Edmund College students presented a skit on Anglo-Kuki War .

Among the four nominees for the Kut Icon, Andrew Paoginlen Lotzem, silver medallist, Serbian U-17 Youth International Badminton Championship won the Kut Icon Award 2017 while a legendary singer Benny Khongsai mesmerized the audience with his popular song, "Koi ba khatvei jol'a koi nomdem" .

Leaders of Kuki Inpi, Meghalaya and Kuki Worship Service based at Shillong and Happy Valley (Shillong) also attended the festival .

A massive feast marked the Kut celebration at Guwahati.
