A youth abducted by armed miscreants and one UNLF cadre were killed today in separate gun-violent incidents in the state.
Reports said that a youth abducted by some unidentified armed persons last night from his house was found killed at Wakha Leima Ching, 14 km east of Porompat police station today morning.
He was identified as Md Romesh @ Ethemba (27) son of Md Tomba of Kshetri Bengoon Awang Leikai.
Local sources said that he was abducted from his home last night around 11 pm.
They said that about five armed miscreants entered his house by breaking the front door house and whisked him away him.
He is survived by his wife and two little children.
His family is yet to know the motives behind the kidnapping and the killing of Romesh.
On the other hand, an UNLF cadre was killed in an alleged encounter with a combined force of police commandos and Assam Rifles at Langathel village under Kakching police station of Thoubal district this morning, around 3 am.
An AK-56 rifle with a magazine loaded with 10 live rounds, one hand grenade and a driving licence were recovered from the slain suspect whose dead body has been transferred to RIMS morgue, for official identification.
The slain cadre was later identified as Moirangthem Ngouba (35) son of M Lokhon of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
He received six bullet marks in his head, chest and thighs.
Police said that he was killed in an encounter with a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 15 Assam Rifles who entered the area based on specific information of the presence of armed UGs in the area.
The combined force killed him in a brief gunfight with about five armed cadres.
The dead body was found in a further search operation after the firing ceased, they said.
Family members said that he was a former cadre of the UNLF but had retired from some years back.
He had been missing since he went out on a bicycle some days back.
After postmortem was conducted at RIMS morgue, the dead body has been taken back by the family to performing the last rites.
