Imphal, October 15 2010:
Normal life in Manipur remained affected today on account of the National Black Day observed by various UG groups to protest merger of Manipur with India.
The proscribed RPF/PLA had issued a boycott call all over the State today denouncing the signing of merger agreement on this day in 1949 while PREPAK had imposed public curfew and an 18-hour State wide general strike from 1 am to 7 pm today.
KCP-MC had also joined in the boycott call of the merger agreement.
All the shops, market places and other business establishments in and around Imphal remained shut and there was no inter-district and inter-State transport services along the roads with the exceptions of few vehicular movements which were related to religious function and medical treatment.
Tourist bus service plying between Imphal and capital cities of other neighbouring States also stayed off from the roads today.
However, flight service in the State functioned normally though the number of passengers were few.
The State Government had deployed security personnel at different parts as a pre-emptive measures toward avoiding any unwanted incident.
