Despite it important in this insurgency infested state of Manipurto deal with violation of human rights, the Manipur State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) is remaining in defunct state for the last six months.
It is running without its member as government is to make appointment of its chairman and members for the next term.
It has been already completed six month, the Commission is has been remaining in defunct state since the expiry of terms of the chairman and members of the commission.
Manipur Human Rights Commission, Lamphelpat was established on 27th June 1998 under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.The main purpose is for protection of human rights and prevention of violation of human rights.
A person can make a complaint for violation of human rights to the State Commission.
The Commission consists of four members headed by one chairperson.
Chairperson and members were appointed for every five year.
The term of the members expired in the first week of May this year but state government, the appointing authority is not appointing its members even after six months had past.
When the government could not appoint its chairperson, with the expiry of their terms, its members Lt Col Rajendra Singh Rajkumar (Retd of Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak and Ng Nongyai of Singjamei Chingamathak had also retired.
