11th Remembrance Day observed

On the occasion of the 11th Remembrance Day, a tribute was offered to the Naga martyrs at ANSAM Memorial Park, Kapaam (Komlathabi) in Chandel district today.
During the observance ceremony, representatives of different Naga civil society organisations laid wreaths at the park.
In his welcome address, Ruwnglar Elly Anal, president, Naga Students Union, Chandel paid tribute to the fallen heroes and urged the ANSAM team to upgrade the park.
Meanwhile, M Luikang Luckson, president, ANSAM highlighted the names of nine martyrs and asserted that the story of the fallen heroes will always remain in the hearts of the Nagas.
Their spirit of supreme sacrifice has given strength and courage to march forward in unison to protect and safeguard the people and their rights, land, history and identity without fear and without reproach, he said.
Eulogy of the 9 martyrs including Shelley Chara (1958-1995), Ng.
Sani (1920-1998), Ashun R.Jangvei (1961-1998), Namthiurei Abonmei, (1966-2005), Gemcliff V Zimik (1972-2007), Neli Chakho (1990-2010), Dikho Loshou (1990-2010), Mayopam Ramror (1979-2014) and Ramkashing Vashi (1988-2014) were read out in the midst of the program.
Speaking as the guest speaker, Sulanthung Lotha, president, Naga Hoho stated that the day is celebrated every year on June 19 to pay homage to the brave souls who sacrificed their lives while fighting for the people.
Martyr's Day is not just about remembering the great leaders who fought for freedom, but also about paying tribute to men and women who lost their golden lives in the struggle.
Their sacrifice and dedication towards the Naga Nation are immeasurable and the people owe them a debt of gratitude.
It is a day to reflect upon the struggles and hardship faced by the freedom fighters and to renew one's commitment towards the nation, he mentioned.
Solidarity messages from the Naga Students Federation (NSF), United Naga Council (UNC), Naga Mothers Association (NMA), Naga Women's Union (NWU) and Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) were brought at the gathering.
Rev Shonnai Saka, president, Chandel Naga Christian Forum (CNCF) blessed the martyrs families through prayer during the later part of the program.
Gifts were also presented to the families of the martyrs by ANSAM.
