The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council has strongly denounced the escalation in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG.
Many who attended the Food Security Day observance organised by CPI, Manipur State Council at GM hall here today also decried the hike in prices of essential commodities.
The observance also deliberated on several agenda such as controlling price rise, stabilising prices of essential commodities at commensurate rates, penalising black marketeers and hoarders, modifying and strengthening Essential Commodities Act, enforcement of the PDS throughout the State etc.
Taking part in the observance, MLA N Mangi highlighted the need for a new approach regarding the escalating prices of goods and absence of food security in the country.
He asserted that none of the welfare programmes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan or PDS taken up by the Government of India have been implemented successfully.
Rather, the business community are reaping the benefits of these programmes though they are meant for the underprivileged populace of the country, he observed while calling upon the people to raise against such exploitation.
Addressing the gathering, former Minister Dr M Nara asserted that the Government of India's decision to hike prices of petrol, diesel and LPG was crime committed to the economically weaker sections of the country.
It's an act of looting the impoverished people by privileged classes.
To resolve all these grievances, he advocated for a socialist economy in place of capitalist economy.
The observance was also attended by a large of CPI Manipur State Council's comrades including its secretary Langol Iboyaima.
