Imphal, June 05 2014:
KNLF has urged the civil society organisations of Chandel district to revoke their decision of imposing bandh on Imphal-Moreh road in protest against setting up of a designated camp at Semol village under Khengjoy Sub-Division of the district.
It may be mentioned that six civil society organisations of the district - Kuki Chiefs Association, Kuki People's Forum, Thadou Students' Association, KSO, Kuki Women Union for Human Rights and United Zou Organistion - had threatened the Government yesterday that they would clamp bandh on the highway if the construction of a deignated camp at Semol village was not stopped immediately.
Speaking to reporters somewhere in Chandel district, KNLF general secretary Tonglenlal Haokip alias Lalmoi said that the decision taken by these six civil society organisations was unfortunate for the whole Kuki community.
Tonglenlal alleged that the press statement issued by these organisations was drafted by UKLF and signatures of the leaders were forcibly taken.
It is unfortunate for the whole Kuki cimmunity to create tension instead of putting in effort to bring peace and harmony, he added.
Saying that KSO has told KNLF that they know nothing about the press statement, Tonglenlal said that Kuki People's Forum is an organisation formed by UKLF.
He also appealed the six bodies to issue statements to the media after having a thorough knowledge about the situation of Khengjoy Sub-Division in future.
Maintaining that KNLF respects all the civil society organisations, Tonglenlal also urged these organisations not to interneven into the issue.
Saying that construction of the designated camp at Semol village is nearing completion with support from the villagers, Tonglenlal urged the civil society bodies to revoke their stand.
Regarding the allegations levelled against 26 Assam Rifles DIG, Tonglenlal said that Assam Rifles are simply discharging their duty.
They are simply providing security as permitted and instructed by the Union Home Ministry and State Government, he added.
Clarifying that KNLF neither has any faction nor their cadres have surrendered, Tonglenlal said that they had never violated the SoO ground rules and indulged in extortion.
UKLF is the outfit involving in extortions, he alleged.
Expressing gratitude to Central and State Governments for giving permission of setting up Semol designated camp, Tonglenlal also urged to conduct a joint inspection of the camp at the earliest.
