Imphal, June 02 2016:
The Joint Committee on Reformation of Existing Reservation Policy in MU and students of Manipur University
burnt effigies in front of MU main gate against the alleged wrong-
ful act of the authority regarding Central reservation norms.
Speaking to media persons, MUSU's general secretary O
Premchand said that against the warning given by a local club
of Canchipur, former registrar of MU Prof N Lokendro sent
a letter to the Governor in July 2014.
In the letter it was mentioned that Manipur University
is located in a tribal inhabited State and thus manipulated
the Central Educational Reservation in Admission (Amend-
ment) Act 2012.
Dr RK Joteen Singh, Deputy Registrar, MU issued a press
release on May 31 supporting the letter countersigned by Prof
N Lokendro.
Further, he added that, the wrongful act of the authority
should be revoked as resolved in the Academic Council meeting on May 30 to follow Central Reservation norms ie 27%
of OBC, 15% of SC and 7.5% of ST without any condition.
The press release issued by RK Joteen betrayed the mem-
bers of the Academic Council, students and people of the state.
Branding Manipur as a tribal State is not acceptable to
students and local bodies, Premchand said.
The academic block of MU would be shut down from June
3 and if MU authority does not take corrective measures by
then and the university will be shut down, said another member of the Joint Committee on Reformation of Existing
Reservation Policy in MU.
