Orange Fest comes to a colourful end

The 3 day long Orange festival which was celebrated under the theme "Orange for peace, health, beauty and prosperity" came to an end at the lower ground of Tamenglong district HQs today.
PHED Minister L Dikho and Namsinrei Panmei, Chairman, Autonomous District Council, Tamenglong, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
L Dikho wished the people of Tamenglong a merry Christmas on behalf of the Chief Minister and urged the people to fully take advantage of railway transport in promoting the indigenous orange fruit since railway is passing through the heart of Tamenglong God has fully blessed the land, people and the orange of Tamenglong so we must fully utilise the opportunities in promoting, acknowledging and preserving the oranges of Tamenglong, the chief guest said.
He also requested the public to support and offer cooperation to the Government's developmental work which is going on in the district as of now.
Namsinrei Panmei urged the orange growers to work hard to increase the orange plantation and produces.
He also assured the orange farmers present in the gathering that all the need and financial help will be given from the District Administration and the State fund.
The best oranges for the year 2018 was bagged by stall No.102, Gaigupliu of Sibilong village who won a cash price of Rs 1,50,000.Stall No.99, Gaichungliu Gangmei of Sibilong village under Tousem Sub- Division and stall No 60, Ramkeliu Gangmei of Chaengdai village under Tamenglong sub- Division bagged the second and third prizes respectively.
The cash award for second prize was Rs 100000 and third prize was Rs 75000 .
17 orange growers also received consolation prize of Rs 20,000 each and the rest of the participants received a cash prize of Rs 5000 each.
Altogether 173 orange growers participated in the competition.
District administration of Tamenglong, in collaboration with ICAR, CAU and NABARD, conducted a seminar on the second day of the festival under the theme "Orange: Its Perspective, Problems and Potential" at the Tamenglong Indoor Stadium.

Department of ICAR, CAU and NABARD gave presentations on various topic regarding cultural practices for sustainable production of Tamenglong oranges, soil management in the context of orange cultivation, plant protection in an organic and sustainable manner and the role of NABARD in rural development especially in Horticulture Crop Production were presented to the participants.
Department of Horticulture distributed pea seeds to all the orange growers participants after the session.
Journalist and Founder "Breaking the Silence" Urmila Chanam also presented a topic in the Vital role of Media and Market Linkages in Global Context.
As a part of the festival, 13 year old Gaindinliu, a student of JNV came first and bagged a cash award of Rs 30,000 and citation for participating in Tamenglong Got Talent while Ringsangnang Reamei and Apiliu Panmei stood second and third and won a cash award of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively and citations as well.
It is worth mentioning that during the 15th Orange festival celebration, District administration of Tamenglong, along with various civil societies, NGOs and village authority organised various events such as night camping at Dailong village, trekking to Tharon cave and waterfall, trekking at Luangku forest, Bio-diversity Heritage site at Dailong and rafting and kayaking at Barak river for visitors from different parts of the State.
