Imphal, December 10 2018:
Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) has threatened to impose indefinite bandh along NH-39 or to launch any sort of agitations if the State Government fails to intervene and bring amicable solution regarding the land issue between Committee of Kondong Lairembi Laipham and public of Chikim Village within a week.
A press release issued by KSO president stated that the Chingkim villagers donated a piece of land for Kondong Lairembi Laipham as a goodwill gesture and in the spirit of brotherhood but some individuals from valley with the support of some powerful men have started to construct residential building with the intention to settle in the Chingkim village against the wishes of the local people.
Alleging that the Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh and the chief of Chikim Village declared that the land was given for the sole purpose of Kondong Lairembi Laipham, it claimed that some individuals have betrayed their trust and fooled them by grabbing a large chunk of land out of greed and personal interest.
The issue has created friction among the two communities and has the potential to poison the good relationship, it added.
The statement also mentioned that they might possess documents, which are not from the authorities concerned but from somewhere else, in support of their claim.
Saying that the locals of the village have been opposing the construction of residential building in the area, it further cautioned that the organisation (KSO) will not remain as silent spectators anymore and urged the State Government and authorities concerned to intervene at the earliest accordingly.
