Imphal, March 06 2021:
The Supreme Court on March 2 dismissed a special leave petition filed by MLA Akoijam Mirabai against Sapam Kunjakeshwor alias Keba Singh, pertaining to 2017 General Assembly elections.
During the hearing, the counselor of the petitioner had sought the permission of the Court to withdraw the special leave petition.
After hearing the counsels of both parties, the Court granted the permission sought and dismissed the petition.
Notably, this is the second time the top Court has dismissed her petition.
Earlier, the Court had also dismissed a similar special leave petition.
It may be noted that Sapam Kunjakeshwor had filed a petition in the High Court alleging that the Returning Officer had favoured Mirabai in the counting of the votes in the 2017 General Assembly election for Patsoi AC .
Subsequently, Mirabai had then filed a petition in the same Court to dismiss the petition against her.
Thereafter, the High Court on November 13, 2019 had rejected Mirabai's petition which prompted her to file her first special leave petition with the Supreme Court.
The top Court had then dismissed the petition.
