Imphal, June 10 2026:
The Manipur Secretariat Services' Association (MSSA) has threatened to launch an indefinite work strike in protest against the cancellation of Saturday holidays and other unresolved issues.
In a letter to the Governor, the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers and other top officials, the MSSA demanded immediate restoration of Saturday holidays, implementation of Dearness Allowance at par with the Central Government rates and enhancement of superannuation age from 60 to 62 years.
The Association contended that the decision to convert Saturdays into working days for Government departments has significantly disrupted the work-life balance of employees without yielding an measurable increase in administrative efficiency.
It also said that the cancellation of Saturday holidays has restricted essential rest, increased operational burnout and limited the time employees can dedicate to their families and social obligations.
MSSA also said that the State Government employees are facing immense financial strain due to the continuously rising cost of living.
"While Central Government employees receive periodic, inflation-adjusted Dearness Allowance upgrades (standing at 60 per cent), Manipur State employees remain severely marginalised due to delayed and lower DA rates (only 42 per cent at present)", the Association said.
MSSA said that its members will support any peaceful State wide agitation such as mass casual leave, non cooperation movement or an indefinite cease work strike launched by any association/organisation if the Government fails to take decisive action to resolve the issues.
