Manipuri docu film invited to NY fest

Imphal, August 02: Jagoida Kathoklabi Surjamukhi Devi, a Manipuri documentary film produced and directed by pioneering Manipuri film actor Yengkhom Roma Devi has been invited for screening at the IAAC's Dance Festival in New York, USA scheduled to be held from August 18 to 21 .

The 23 and half minutes long film is based on the life history and achievements of renowned dancer and exponent of classical Manipur dance Thiyam Surjamukhi Devi.

Significantly, the film is the first directorial venture of Yengkhom Roma Devi who has also become the first among the Manipuri women film maker whose film has been invited at an International film festival outside India.

Made under the Commissioned Programme of the Doordarshan Kendra, Imphal, the film had been earlier screened at the Mumbai International Film Festival, 2008 .
