Media personnel were honoured in the annual 'Meet the Media Fraternity' programme organised by the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today at its head office in Kwakeithel.
In today's programme, media persons of different media houses were honoured with simple gifts.
Speaking on the occasion, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Bijoy Kakchingtabam appreciated the student organisation for organising the programme to discuss the news reporting of various events that occurred in 2023 and the way forward for 2024 .
He also expressed his concern over the present state of Manipur where a person is either jailed, beaten or his/ her house has been torched/ burnt down for making even the slightest of mistakes.

He continued that since the conflict broke out on May 3 last, many innocent lives have been lost and thousands of people have been displaced in their own State.
Extending his respect to all the brave heroes who gave their lives in the present conflict, DESAM president Leishangthem Lamyanba Meetei said that the student body has been providing all possible assistance and support to the indigenous people affected by the conflict.
He also expressed anguish over the arrest of former AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai and urged the Government & the Court to release him at the earliest.
He shared that DESAM has been organising 'Meet the Media Fraternity' programme every year on the last day of the year to honour and appreciate the works rendered by the State journalists who have been disseminating daily news to the public against all odds.
Lamyanba further prayed for the New Year 2024 to bring peace, harmony & prosperity in Manipur.
