Assaulted by SI, alleges ASI

Imphal, February 23 2019: An Assistant Sub Inspector of Imphal West Reserved Line, was allegedly assaulted by a Sub Inspector of Imphal PS, inside the 2nd OC room after the ASI was picked up from his residence by the SI .

Following the incident, the injured ASI was reportedly taken to hospital for treatment and X-Rays had to be taken to determine his injuries.

Narrating about the incident, Kh Samungou (51) of Ningthoukhong ward number 5 (presently staying at Kangabam Leikai and serving as Assistant Sub Inspector of Reserved Line Imphal West) stated that a complaint was lodged against him by one Kunjarani Devi of Laipham Khunou for damaging some plastic milk packets at Chingmeirong and that Kunjarani had also threatened to kill him.

He continued that, in connection with the incident, he applied for an anticipatory bail before the Court of District and Sessions Judge, Imphal East and during the hearing of the anticipatory bail application on February 4, the Court had called for the status report from Imphal PS on or before February 8 apart from announcing that in the event of his arrest by personnel of Imphal PS, he should be released on interim bail by furnishing a PR bond of Rs 30,000 and that he should be made available before the IO of the case on February 6 .

He then said that on February 8, the Court fixed February 26 for the report hearing and as per the Court's direction, he had appeared before the IO of the case twice for giving his statement in connection with allegations levelled against him.

However, today, all of a sudden, One Sub Inspector and one ASI (in full uniforms) came to his residence on a two wheeler moped and picked him up before taking him to Imphal PS.

After taking him inside the 2nd OC room of the police station, he was allegedly assaulted with a leather belt by the SI who is not the IO of the case, in front of complainant Kunjarani and her husband.

He was also allegedly punched on his face and kicked in his abdomen before he was finally set free at around 2 pm, claimed the alleged victim.
