IUINDRR-NIDM felicitates MTU Asst Prof for contribution to Disaster Risk Reduction

Kosygin Leishangthem, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Manipur Technical University (MTU) was felicitated today by the India Universities and Institutions Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (IUINDRR-NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi.
Professor Kosygin was recognized for his invaluable contribution to the compendium of Best Practices related to the Prime Minister's Ten-Point Agenda on the observance of International Women's Day under the theme: Women's Leadership in Disaster Risk Reduction today.
According to a press release issued by Dr Kakchingtabam Anil Sharma, HoD and Assistant Professor, Dept of Civil Engineering, MTU, Professor Leishangthem's work focused on the role played by Meira Paibi (spiritual leader) of Manipur in Disaster Risk Management.
His research emphasizes the critical role of the prominent women's activist group in Manipur, in addressing social issues.
He highlighted their potential contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic in raising awareness, mobilizing communities, and possibly distributing aid and their involvement in relief efforts and rebuilding after the 2016 Manipur earthquake.
The ceremony also included the release of the compendium on Best Practices "Women's Role in Disaster Risk Management".
Additionally, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Research Facility and the Knowledge Vertical Dashboard - IUINDRR-NIDM were launched.
The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Rajendra Ratnoo, IAS, Executive Director, NIDM; Dr Santosh Kumar, Senior Advisor, NIDM; Dr Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities (AIU); Dr Vinita Sahay, Director, IIM Bodh Gaya and many other eminent scholars from across the country.
